Why Mindfulness?

Anxiety and self criticism have been my unwanted companions for many years and for a long time I have sought to find understanding and freedom from my thoughts. The 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course provided me with the answer. As a result I am much kinder to myself and less entangled in my thinking. The course has helped me to “ re-wire the circuit” and I feel freer.

In 2010 I decided to start the teacher training in MBSR through Bangor University and I regularly attend courses and retreats to deepen my understanding and practice.

In 2014 I trained in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Cancer with Trish Bartley to apply the MBCT Course to people with a cancer diagnosis.

In 2015 I completed a training with Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer the founders of the Mindful Self Compassion Programme. I now integrate aspects of MSC into the 8 week MBSR Course I teach.

Suffering is part of life - yet it is hard to deal with it alone whether it comes in the form of anxious thoughts, or physical pain, or sadness from the loss of a loved one. I believe mindfulness meditation and loving kindness provide a beacon of hope in difficult times. Certainly it has supported me through ill health and stress.

My Background - Teaching has been my career and I have taught across the age ranges. First at a primary school, then at The United World College of Singapore running their Outdoor Pursuits Centre with my husband. I returned to the UK and trained in Montessori and headed up a Nursery for 6 years.

I have always loved learning and searched for answers to life’s challenges. This has resulted in years of Personal Development training and further courses in Neuro Linguistic Programming and Coaching. Prior to teaching Mindfulness I taught meditation at local health clinics.

I have trained as a Facilitator in MBSR with the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice, Bangor University since 2007. I am a committed Mindfulness Meditation Practitioner and regularly attend further training and retreats. Whilst teaching courses I adhere to the Good Practice Guidelines established by Bangor University.
